Dedicated to children everywhere, who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in a strange new world.
Extract:
Terror gripped Willamena's heart as she scurried away from the scent of the animal. The thick undergrowth snagged her
fur and brushed across her face as she fought her way through. She shut her eyes to protect them. Then she stepped in a hole in the
forest floor and staggered. She fought to regain her balance, but she fell and tumbled down a tunnel, like a ball rolling along
a gutter.
Clawing the damp earth frantically to stop her fall, she finally came to a stop. Looking around, she realised
that the hole she tripped in was actually the entrance to a burrow.
She sniffed the air to see if it was a wombat burrow. The scent
was weak and new to her. Willamena hoped that meant no one lived there anymore, and cautiously crept deeper into the burrow.
"Is anyone
there?" she called, but no one replied. She snuck further in. 'It's big enough for me; and too big to be a rabbit warren. I wonder
what kind of animal lives here,' she thought. “I hope it's friendly, if it is home," she mumbled.
